There is power in giving your lawn care customers something for nothing. In many cases, this marketing tip counts and can go a long way for you.

Let me explain...

There is a restaurant in town here that gives away a whole loaf of bread for free when you pick up an order from them.

So you buy a full family meal and you get a whole, fresh, large loaf of bread for free. Now, I’m not price conscious, but I’ve got to admit that even the penny pinchers have a tough time staying away from there.

I mean, a whole loaf of fresh bread for nothing? To everyone that orders and picks up? Amazing! How can that restaurant do that?

The method of giving something for nothing is a tried-and-true approach worthy of copying in your lawn business.

You agree?

Okay how about this angle.

You ever go to get some cologne (or perfume) and you wanted to pick up a sample sprayer? Ever receive a jolt of excitement when the person at the counter hands you a sample bottle that isn't small and looks like it may last for awhile?

Even the world's super rich look for something for nothing. Dealerships give away seat covers if you buy a luxury car from them. Wealthy people buy lottery tickets in the hopes of getting something for nothing. Rich people swarm casinos only to lose a ton of money just to get some freebies.

Remember this - no one is immune to the attraction of something for nothing.

Something for nothing will increase the attraction to your lawn care business and interest a person into trying out your business more so than anything else.

When you consider all that I have said, doesn’t it make sense to try and appeal to this controlling emotion with your lawn business?

So tell them to purchase a lawn cut from you and they'll get a free garden bed tidy up or that they should order an aeration and they'll get a free company shirt. Your customers love something for nothing.



Itty-Bitty Reasons Why

In a perfect world, the reason we would strive for success is all in the name of benevolence. Don't get me wrong, this is a great goal and for some, this is the greatest reason why they do what they do.

But when I first started on my quest for success my reasons why were a lot more basic. Like the title of this article, they were itty-bitty reasons. These are the kind of reasons that anyone and everyone has. And as small as they are, they can change our lives.

My mentor taught me the process of creating goals. What he added to this process was a reason "why" I wanted the goal. Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement. Having a reason why keeps the furnace going.

Take two people going after a goal. One person has one reason why and the other person has 57 reasons why. Who do you think will keep going when the going gets tough? More likely the person with more reasons why he should keep going, right?

An itty-bitty reason may not win us any prize for greatness, but they can be enough to have a permanent effect on the rest of our lives.

How about you? What itty-bitty reasons do you have waiting to challenge and provoke you into changing for the better? Look for them, write them down. You can be assured that they are there.

How To Make a Lawn Greener


Things You’ll Need:

Lawn aerator
Parasite killer
Week killer

Step 1:

Get rid of any parasites in your lawn. Grubs and bugs can eat the roots and leaves of your grass causing brown patches. Brown patches lessen the green color of your lawn. Gophers can cause tunnels under your lawn causing the grass over it to die when the roots are cut or disrupted. You can apply parasite removal products that you purchase in your local home improvement store, or hire a professional to do the job.

Step 2:

Remove all weeds from your lawn. Weeds like crab grass and dandelions can diminish the deep green of a healthy weed free lawn. Apply weed removal products or hire a lawn service to do it for you.

Step 3:

Aerate your lawn. Lawn aerators pull up small chunks of earth from your lawn which allows grass roots to spread. If your grass growth increases there will be less bare patches. A thick lawn always appears greener.

Step 4:

Keep your lawn well watered. Grass that is under watered begins to turn brown very quickly. A well-watered lawn looks lush and green. Set up a sprinkler during dry periods of weather to be sure your lawn says well hydrated.

Step 5:

Fertilize your lawn. A well-fed lawn is a happy and green lawn. You can apply lawn fertilizer on a regular basis on your own or hire a service such as Lawn Doctor to keep your lawn fed and happy.



Fertilizer For Your Mind

Shortly after I met my mentor he asked me, "Mr. Rohn, how much money have you saved and invested over the last six years?" And I said, "None." He then asked, "Who sold you on that plan?"

It is better to be a lender than a spender.

To become financially independent you must turn part of your income into capital; turn capital into enterprise; turn enterprise into profit; turn profit into investment; and turn investment into financial independence.

Financial independence is the ability to live from the income of your own personal resources.

If you depend on your company to take care of your retirement, your future income will be divided by five. Take care of it yourself, and you can multiply your future income by five.

I remember saying to my mentor, "If I had more money, I would have a better plan." He quickly responded, "I would suggest that if you had a better plan, you would have more money." You see, it's not the amount that counts; it's the plan that counts.

If you were to show me your current financial plan, would I get so excited by it that I would go across the country and lecture on it? If the answer is no, then here's my question: "Why not"? Why wouldn't you have a superior financial plan that is taking you to the places you want to go?

I used to say, "Things cost too much." Then my teacher straightened me out on that by saying, "The problem isn't that things cost too much. The problem is that you can't afford it." That's when I finally understood that the problem wasn't "it" - the problem was "me."

The Bible says that it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. It doesn't say that it is impossible!
