Editorial: It Takes Money To Make Money
By Daniel Pepper

"Our greatest lack is not money for any undertaking, but rather ideas. If the ideas are good, cash will somehow flow to where it is needed."
- Robert Schuller
Have you heard this popular myth? Well it's also
circulating through the lawn care industry too.
Success with your business will always come down to thinking. To
your thoughts.
And the problem is, when someone receives a nice fat loan or someone
invests in their lawn care business, their thinking slows down.
Unearned money is like tar. Get enough of it, and you're likely to slow
down on your creativity.
Afterall, you've got all the cash you need.
START THINKING AGAIN
Even if you have a lot of money to run your lawn care business, don't
let it slow down your thinking.
Keep asking questions like, "How can we get more lawn customers?
What extra services can we add to our arsenal? How can we get
back customers who have left our roster?"
These questions stir your creative juices to start coming up with ideas
that can answer these questions. And there's a real big chance that if
an idea requires a lot of capital, it's probably not your best idea yet.
The best ideas will always come from answering the question of,
"What would I do if I couldn't get the money?". In the end,
answering this question always leads to your best ideas.
YOU'RE A SMALL BUSINESS -- ACT LIKE ONE
Sometimes we act like the little sibling that imitates their older brother
or sister. We look at the big lawn companies and think we need to
be like them in order to win. We think that since they spend massive
amounts of money to stay on top, so do we.
The answer is 'No'.
We're a small business, so we need to act like one.
Trying to act like a big, corporate giant is a bad idea. And bad ideas
lead to losses.
Keep your creativity going whether you have money or
not to grow your lawn care business. Keep answering those questions.
Seek out those good ideas that usually require minimal capital.
That is a great idea and great ideas lead to victory.

AN EXTRA PIECE OF MARKETING ADVICE...
Opportunity Is Everywhere
At one point in my life, making money was like climbing Mount Everest. However these days, neither I nor most of the people who order My Formula seem to have any trouble in generating more income from a lawn business (those committed to taking action that is).
Right now the economy isn't dead so and opportunity is everywhere. People are spending their money on services like lawn care.
If you take your lawn business and focus on meeting your customer's needs, are quick to respond to their needs and are reliable, you ought to be skipping to the bank.
Opportunity abounds all around you. Market right and deliver on your promises and your customer list should be growing.

The First Step
By Daniel Pepper
When I was young there was a statement mentioned that I have never forgotten.
"If you can believe it, you can achieve it."
How dramatically we change our results is largely dependent upon our imagination. Really.
In 1960, it was simply impossible for man to travel into outer space. Within 10 years, however, the first man stepped out onto the surface of the moon and the whole world tuned in.
One of the astronauts on this mission said that there were only 2 problems to overcome in order to get to the moon. The first was getting there. The second was getting back.
The miraculous process of turning the dream into reality began when one voice challenged the scientific community to do whatever was necessary to see to it that America "places a man on the moon by the end of this decade." That bold statement started what ended up birthing a lunar reality.
We can take this success principle and apply it to every area of our life!
Can you rise from the bottom to the top in whatever you set your mind to? Definitely.
The unique combination of desire, planning, effort and continual perseverance will always work its magic. The question is not whether the formula for success will work, but rather whether the person will work the formula.
This is the unknown variable, as they say. Will a person work the formula?
That is the challenge that confronts all of us. We can all go from wherever we are to wherever we want to be. No dream is impossible, provided we first have the courage to believe in it and a big enough desire to put one foot in front of the other and take a step in that direction.
